Many Process Cooling applications present unique challenges including: corrosive potential of product and the materials of construction of the cooling equipment; required flows and temperatures are often outside the normal range for standard equipment; and the complexity of the overall cooling solution can all be limiting factors in the successful implementation of a temporary Process Cooling Solution.
Often times, the only way to adequately heat or cool a process fluid is with heat exchangers rather than via direct contact with conventional cooling equipment. Heat Exchangers keep the process fluid separate from the primary cooling liquid, while still allowing efficient heat transfer in process applications.
When sized properly, temporary chillers or cooling towers, coupled rental heat exchangers allow standard rental cooling equipment to operate within its design operating range, and providing effective cooling to a process stream. This also provides significantly more flexibility since processes often require operation at varying conditions.
For example, cooling a volatile process liquid from 120° F to 60° F cannot be safely accomplished using a liquid chiller alone. By adding a rental heat exchanger with a secondary cooling loop through the heat exchanger, optimal cooling can be achieved. In this example, the chiller would cool the primary water stream from 55° F to 45° F, with the secondary loop cooling the process stream from 120° F to 60° F as desired. By creating a secondary cooling loop, the ability to properly cool the process stream on the process side of the heat exchanger is realized, simply by varying the liquid flow of the primary water cooling loop.
Using this method for cooling process fluids effectively separates the thermal and hydraulic properties of the process liquid from the primary cooling liquid and equipment. This allows the required cooling to be accomplished in the most efficient way possible while operating mechanical or evaporative cooling equipment within its design range.
